Not everyone wants a carbon bike, so Santa Cruz offer their incredible new Tallboy in aluminium too. Following the success of their flip chip on the Hightower, Santa Cruz (possibly having spotted Biketart’s cheeky suggestion in 2016) have decided to take extend the idea to their shorter travel 29er, meaning that the Santa Cruz Tallboy Alloy 2018 comes as either 29er or 27.5+, depending on your riding style.

As a short travel 29er, the Tallboy gives up 110mm of super smooth VPP travel, making it ideal for big days out, trail centre riding or even a spot of XC racing. 29ers roll over obstacles with ease, offer a big contact patch in loose conditions and tackle rocky, rooty trails like they're tarmac. Keeping up speed is also a breeze, great for long distance riding and connecting bridleways with road sections. Matched to a 120mm fork and with a playfully sensible 68 degree head angle, the Tallboy Alloy 29er is as much fun as it is a reliable trail partner.

Jumping to 27.5+ wheels and things get a little more…lairy. Front end travel jumps to 130mm and the tyres can be as wide as 3 inches, giving you masses of contact patch and ‘fat lite’ style handling. Plus bikes are fantastic for super loose trails, big rocky rides and days out where comfort might be valued a little more than speed. Climbing & cornering are also a dream, with so much grip on tap that you might think there was glue attached to your tyres. Cleverly, the Tallboy  in 27.5 plus flavour keeps the same ‘every trail’ friendly 68 degree head angle.

Either way, you get a super light set of hydroformed and by butted aluminium tubes, developed specially for Santa Cruz to offer to their metal loving customers. Matched to the world beating VPP suspension system, is Fox Float Factory DPS shock which dishes out buttery smooth travel, no matter what the trail surface is like. SRAM 1x11 gearing is ready for any climb and race proven Level brakes are XC light, but all mountain powerful. Maxxis tyres do the gripping, whether they be 29x2.3 or 27.5+x3.0 and reliable Novatec hubs laced to wide Race Face or WTB rims make for a seriously impressive set of hoops in the Tallboy Alloy. Finishing kit from Cane Creek, Race Face and WTB, plus a tubeless set up as standard make the Tallboy one of the most ‘complete’ off the shelf machines that money can buy. If you live you frames made from aluminium and want to maximise the fun factor in your ride, look no further than the brand new 29 or 27.5+ Santa Cruz Tallboy Alloy 2018.
